If you will be a first year swimmer, this information should be reviewed by you with your parent(s).
It is important to stress that this level of swimming competition requires commitment and a special kind of team spirit. It is possible to letter in swimming if you meet the set criteria of practice attendance, meet attendance, attitude and commitment.
In swimming there is no “First Team”,”Starters”or “Bench” ! All swimmers, boys and girls, will compete in every meet that the team is scheduled to swim during the regular season. Swim meets will be held from early September until late October at the Ketchum pool on Bluebonnet.
Although swimmers will compete as a team at meets, they will be competing as individuals against the clock. The goal for each athlete will be to swim their best in their events each meet during the regular season .
Relay teams will be made up of 4 swimmers for both the Freestyle and Medley Relays. We will enter as many relay teams allowed per meet as we have swimmers to do so, with exception of the State meet. At the regular seasons end, all area teams swim in the Capital City Swim League Championship Meet held at the LSU Natatorium .
With a true effort , a commitment to training and mental focus it is possible to make the needed qualifying times to represent ZHS at the State Championships the week end before Thanksgiving.
